Green tea
Green tea is extracted from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. Unlike black tea, which is also made from this tea plant, the leaves are not oxidized or fermented. That means, they are heated as soon as they are harvested to inactivate their enzymes. The gentle heating of the fresh leaves preserves many active substances. The tea plant and its preparations originate from China, where green tea, in addition to its use as a beverage, has been known as a medicinal herb for several thousand years.
