What is Pycnogenol®?
Pycnogenol® is a natural plant extract from the bark of the French maritime pine, which grows along the south-west Atlantic coast of France and is also known as a „natural all-rounder“. The original extract contains a natural combination of phytochemicals with unique properties. Horphag Research has already dedicated 40 years to

The uniqueness about Curcumin from Dr. Wolz
Not all curcumin is the same. To realise the full benefits of this valuable phytochemicals, it is necessary to significantly increase its bioavailability. In many products this is achieved by the addition of piperine (from pepper) or micelles („flavourings“). The problem is that all these methods potentially have negative effects on the human metabolism. Dr. Wolz, therefore, uses cyclodextrin to improve bioavailability, a completely side-effect-free natural substance.

The use of cyclodextrin increases the bioavailability of the curcumin in Phytoflam Dr. Wolz® in comparison to pure curcumin powder or conventional curcumin preparations by a factor of 40. The curcumin molecule is enclosed in a ring of cyclodextrin molecules and thus, made soluble in water.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many conventional supplements use piperine (black pepper extract) to increase curcumin absorption, but this can irritate the mucous membranes and affect drug metabolism in the liver. Dr. Wolz uses an innovative method instead: The curcumin is embedded in a ring-shaped structure made of plant-based starch (gamma-cyclodextrin). This microencapsulated form protects the curcuminoids, makes them hydrophilic (water-soluble), and results in the curcumin being absorbed in the intestine many times more efficiently—without any piperine or artificial polysorbates (emulsifiers).
- Boswellia serrata: This is a high-quality extract from the Indian frankincense tree, which is tested and standardized for valuable boswellic acids. It is traditionally used to support heavily stressed joint structures.
- Pycnogenol®: This is a proprietary, premium natural substance that has been extensively studied in clinical trials and is derived from the bark of the French maritime pine (Pinus pinaster). It provides a consistent profile of specific phytochemicals (proanthocyanidins).
Yes, this supplement is designed to provide long-term nutritional support for the musculoskeletal system. Since the vitamins (C, K2) and standardized plant extracts it contains are present in physiologically balanced amounts, it is safe to take daily over the long term.
Technically, it is possible to open the capsules and stir the powder inside into food (e.g., yogurt) or liquids. However, this is not recommended for practical reasons: Curcumin and frankincense have a very intense, characteristically astringent, and slightly bitter taste of their own. In addition, curcumin has extremely strong natural coloring properties that can permanently stain textiles, plastic spoons, or containers yellow. Swallowing the cellulose capsule whole is therefore the cleanest and most convenient method.
