Secondary plant ingredients are bioactive substances which are produced by plants to protect themselves against environmental influences.
Citrus biflavonoids or the natural pigments of the rosehip and blueberry (anthocyans) are representatives of these secondary plant substances. These secondary plant substances are valuable and health promoting for man, and the German Society for Nutrition (DGE) therefore recommends eating fruit and vegetables 5 x daily. The effect of vitamin C is enhanced when combined with other biological principles such as citrus bioflavonoids.
The flavonoids, known as vitamin P, are a mixture of different citrus flavonoids which enhance the biological activity of the natural vitamin obtained from the acerola cherry and additionally exert synergistic effects.
